19th Century
Natural Gypsy Herbal Astringent
19th-century Roma's take on the “Queen Of Hungary Water”
Scent: Very Vinegary - but very effective.

Variations of the original recipe are still used today. Legend says it was first created in the 14th Century. In the 16th Century, the Queen of Hungary was said to have used it to help in restoring her youthful beauty. This isn't the original recipe, because it changed over the years.   This specific recipe came from an excellent compilation of traditional and ancient recipes and practices used by the Roma people. The recipe didn't have names, but they described what the recipes were traditionally used for, so we had to give it a name. While we are aware that some take offense to the term, we hope this name provides insight into the Roma people's culture and shows the world their fantastic herbal knowledge.

Suggested Use:
Test an area first. We do not recommend this one if you have sensitive skin. But to clear away stubborn acne fast and rebalance the PH, this is a winner!  It is an excellent astringent or rinse for dark hair. Apply to the face with a cotton ball after washing, either during the day or before bedtime. You don't need to worry about rinsing it off.

This will help with acne and all sorts of facial blemishes. You can also add this to your facial masks. Apply to your temples for headaches, splash on as an aftershave, or soak your feet in a foot bath. On the most basic level, this formula is about restoring skin tone. The vinegar in the formula restores the skin’s acid mantle. This is important because soap makes the skin very alkaline.

This Gypsy herbal astringent lotion masterfully combines gentle herbs. It’s a versatile formula. The Roma people were said to have used this as a hair rinse, mouthwash, headache help, aftershave, footbath, and more! I have seen this formula sold in stores for crazy prices. Apparently, Neiman Marcus sells a similar one for $86.00 for 4 oz.

Shake Before Use! Natural Settlement & "Scobys" may occur.

Fragrance:
This has a mildly strong vinegar-herbal scent.

Legend Has It:
According to the legend, after regular use by the 70+-year-old Queen, it restored her youthful beauty. As a result, the handsome prince of Poland, at 28 years old, was so taken with her beauty that he asked her to marry him! While we will not promise royal proposals, we will say it is a fine facial astringent and rejuvenating tonic. This recipe holds many positive benefits. The book “Pharmacopoeia Londinensis” by Nicholas Culpeper shows a litany of the positive benefits of this century's earlier revered formula.

Here is more info on why Vinegar is great for the face:

For gorgeous skin, use our Gypsy Astringent!

The Romans used vinegar with various plants or essential oils for cosmetic purposes, and vinegar de toilette was fashionable during the 19th century. Vinegar has a tonic action that regulates the skin's pH. If you want to know more, ask us!

Please note that this astringent works on your body's pH levels, so if you are acidic the first time you put it on, it will sting and leave red marks. This is normal. After a while of constant use, this astringent will rebalance your pH levels.. Your skin will be softer, clearer, and younger-looking. The stinging and redness will stop as your skin's pH levels out.
